All we know about Venom... so far (December 2017)

Being a fan of Venom is tough. One the one hand, you keep getting a lot of details for the upcoming movie (thank God!) but one the other, you fall prey to skepticism given that this project can fall apart at anytime; especially considering that Marvel isn't fully involved and the budget is WAY lower than any of the MCU films. Yet, you button your symbiote up (*wink wink*) and wish everything goes well. With that rant out of the way, here's all we know about Venom up to this point:

The first thing that was announced was that Ruben Fleischer was going to direct this movie. This guy had already worked on Zombieland, so a little fun with crimson liquid can be expected. The director has stated that this is going to be along the lines of a horror movie a la The Thing with some humor here and there. We have one of the comic book legends, Todd McFarlane helming the writing chair alongside Kelly Marcel (who worked on the 50 Shades of Grey movie). Speaking of crimson liquid, Venom is going to be R-rated through and through.

The story is confirmed by Tom Hardy (Venom) and the director to be a mix of The Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes. The Lethal protector is definitely a quick but good read where venom reaches an agreement with The Webhead to protect the innocent. The story takes place mostly in San Fran and we see the heroic side of Venom in this mini-series. The Punisher makes a cameo appearance in the story but that might not be the case with the movie (I'd kill for a cameo of Jon Bernthal). I have not read POS yet so can't comment on that. However, one thing is for sure - The Webhead has no place in this universe as of yet.

Tom Hardy is confirmed to be Eddie Brock and he will be involved in performance capture for Venom. So Venom will be going full CG. Michelle Williams is possibly Anne Weying aka The Bride of Venom (as accidently implied by the actress in an interview), the roles of Woody Harrelson, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slater and Scott Haze are all still kept under wraps (Phage, Scream, Lasher??). The villain is definitely Carnage, though who will be playing the manic serial killer is still unknown.

If I can turn your attention to one of the photos above, from tomhardydotorg, you can see some sort of harness that Mr. Hardy is wearing. All initial fan reactions were that it is going to be Agent Venom because of the attire. However, the official logo with the tagline was released by the film-makers (shown below) which dismisses this rumor. It is indeed the old-school, symbiotic, Eddie Brock Venom which we all know and love.

The following video was also released recently which shows Eddie Brock in conflict (?) with the Venom symbiote:

Scott Haze taunts Eddie Brock and gets his ass handed to him by Venom in this BTS footage:

As for the design, the images below were released from the canvas of one Mikkel Frandsen which shows a more bestial nature of the symbiote. I don't know what to think of it since it looks too animalistic by appearance. It does look pretty close to the comics but lacks a certain human-touch, if you know what I mean. Maybe it is the design of only the symbiote without Brock.

Venom is slated to be released on 5th of October, 2018 and I most definitely cannot wait! Come on Sony-Marvel, a teaser trailer could satisfy my...hunger (see what I did there?).
