T.V. Show Review : The X-Files (1993-2002)

I vividly remember the time I used to run away from the Telly when 'The X-Files' theme song popped up. The scenes in the intro would give me the creeps,as if the song wasn't creepy enough! I was about six when my dad used to watch the series, quite religiously, on StarWorld. He was an X-Phile,so to speak.Well, guess what...like father, like son and now I am an X-Phile.

'The X-Files' was one of the most influential series and ha(s)d a huge fan base.It eventually grew up to become a cult series and it was "Mulder and Scully" everywhere...magazines,newspapers,games and even songs (refer to Catatonia's "Mulder and Scully").For those of you who are not familiar,Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are F.B.I agents.Mulder believes in paranormal phenomenon whereas Scully is quite the opposite and believes in rationalism. Both are assigned to The "X" files, which are unsolved, unexplainable cases, involving the paranormal most of the time. The plot is more than just that, but I wouldn't spoil anything.

The show was 9 seasons long(!) and every season is worth watching. My favorite season was (and most would agree with me) season 4.The arguments laid by Mulder and the counter-arguments by Scully was what made the show a success. That and it was creepy as hell, like it should be.The dialogues very good and in some cases, the monsters were creative too(if that makes sense). The acting by the supporting actors was as good as it can get but the 2 lead actors,Duchovny and Anderson (who is a beauty, btw) sound, most of the time, bored out of their skulls. But,I don't think that was a bad thing because it fit their roles perfectly.

There is one thing to point out though, maybe considered a spoiler, but from season 8 onward,Agent Doggett (portrayed by Robert Patrick aka T-1000,btw) and Agent Reyes take the lead, most of the time.Though I missed Mulder and Scully,I started to love Agent Doggett, since his character involved more emotion than the others. And Robert did a perfect job with the role.Either way, season 8 and 9 were the weakest of 'em all.

I've watched all 9 seasons, the 2 movies and completed the video-games and I must say I loved every moment of it.I totally recommend this series to any sci-fi fan,or rather, any person who would be even slightly interested in the subject matter.

Overall score - 9/10
