Game Review : DmC Devil May Cry (2013)
This review is coming from a huge Devil May Cry fan (of the previous games at least...). I, for one, was not shocked at the new Dante's look, when it was first revealed.I thought it was an interesting change and that he looked like (was) an "emo", but it was not a deal-breaker for me.So I gave it a try and...
...
the game is adequate for a DMC reboot. Just adequate.
Let's see - we've got a loud-mouthed protagonist who wields a sword and twin pistols, his twin brother alongside him, a demon who wants to take over the world (who doesn't?), stylish combat, punk rock bgm, large-ass bosses and a damsel in distress.I think the game got it covered. But, it is definitely not a replacement for the old DmC, that is for sure.
See, the game takes place in limbo for about 99% of the time.At first,it was very interesting to look at.But as time progressed, it started to get boring and I wanted to see more of the normal world. Everything is destroyed in limbo, everything is dead.Boring.However, the graphics are of top-quality.The environments look well-detailed,character models are superbly done and the animation is excellent.
I never liked the music in the old DMCs as well.Punk rock is not my thing. But, it gets the job done.
Voice acting is good but the dialogue is cheesy in some instances.
Gameplay is where this game takes the cake. The basic structure is similar to the old ones except a few more moves have been added. We have a grappling system this time around and it is also used to traverse around the environment, much akin to the web-slinger. The guns don't do crap unlike the previous games. So you will find no use for them other than showing off your skills.
Story is the same old 'good vs. evil' crap. There, that was short and sweet, wasn't it?
Overall, the game is adequate as mentioned before.Nothing surprising.I still think the old DMC games were the best. Maybe, it has to do with the number of installments. Maybe the new Dante will grow on me with the future releases,if any.Until then, I will remain a true fan of the original 'white-haired' Dante.
"The end? Don't bet on it!"
