Movie Review : The Exorcist (1973)

To save you time, this movie is, hands down, THE SCARIEST MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN TILL DATE! (and trust me when I say I've seen many.)
Go watch it. Period.

Here's why - this flick was basically a trend-setter for movies based on exorcism. The story may not be original to contemporary viewers, but back then (even today IMO) it was THE quintessential horror movie, by every definition of the word. It has got the right amount of suspense, perfect pacing, perfect scares, a wonderful music score and an overall mood that perfectly binds all these elements together.

One thing that people remember to this day is the theme song, 'Tubular Bells' (which I am listening to as I am typing this ) and let me tell you, this theme song is creepy yet beautifully articulated. Sad that it was used only in one scene in the entire film.

The make-up work is outstanding to say the least, as it rivals that of today's. Even the visual effects were top of the line, especially that of the exorcism scene, which is the highlight of the entire movie.

The acting - most of the actors were unknown to me but everybody did their job perfectly. The best were obviously Linda Blair who plays the lead role, and the actress who played her mum. No complaints whatsoever.

In the end, all I could say is THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU to watch this movie!

Score - 9/10
