Cartoon Series Review - Nick's TMNT (Season 1)
As you might have known, my love for the Ninja Turtles is everlasting. That being said, I had missed this show since it first aired on Nickelodeon as it had somehow slipped under my radar. But thankfully, we have internet these days and I recently watched the entire first season online and I was immediately impressed from the start.
The show may look kid-friendly at first but trust me, I (an adult, DUH) enjoyed it thoroughly. Some of the jokes are like, in the middle. You really don't know if they are supposed to do that in a kids TV show but it is funny and therefore you start to enjoy the humor. And the jokes are funny as hell for a kids show!
The characters are ever the same - Leo is the all round leader, Raph is the gruff type, Mike is the weirdo ( and he is kinda adorable!) and Don is the nerdy type - perhaps too nerdy. Splinter is the wisdom filled father/Sensei and that brings me to April. April is a teenage girl which I didn't like at first but she grew on me. But I do still wish she was the news reporter that she was in all the other TMNT stuff. Shredder's design I don't like necessarily but yeah, whatever he is The Shredder and the belching voice says it right to your face. The voice acting for these characters is outstanding to say the least and I have no complaints whatsoever.
The character models are excellent with the exception of Shredder, like I said before and the animation is superb and is quite close to an anime. The expressions of the characters are almost Pixar like and they speak a lot through their eyes, which is actually quite nice.
This show even has a remixed version of the old TMNT theme which is absolutely kick-ass and that is pure fan-service. I'd suggest this show for all TMNT fans (why the hell are you even reading this?) also for those who have the remotest interest in the franchise. My favorite episode of this season has got to be 'The Pulverizer' - I actually LMAO. It was that funny!
Score - 8/10
