Movie Review - Zootopia
If my memory serves me right, I saw the trailer for 'Zootopia' just before watching 'The Martian' at the cinemas. I knew that I absolutely had to watch it. The trailer had no dialogue, no VO of any sort. Just music and miming which instantly impressed me and deep in my subconscious, I was waiting for the movie to come out praying for it to be as good as it seemed...
My prayers were answered!
Now that I have watched it, I can safely say that this is my 2nd favorite animated film after Ratatouille. Again, this is an animated movie that has heart. I am sure that the animators at Disney were passionate and worked hard on this movie and it clearly shows. The story is basically a what-if scenario where animals behaved like human beings. I know disney has done that a million times but this one is relatable and realistic (?). These animals have to go to work, leave kids at school, update their FB statuses, and you know, basically whatever we humans do in our everyday life. The plot is a very simple "whodunnit" mystery. 14 animals go missing in Zootopia and it is up to the newly recruited Bunny Jude Hopps and her side-kick Fox Nick Wilde to catch the bad guy. They form an uneasy alliance since The Fox is a small-time crook and The Bunny is a Police Officer. The plot is never boring; just when you think "yeah that was okay", something happens during the middle and the story takes a detour.
The imagination levels in this movie is too damn high. Everything from the story, the animation, the voice-acting, the characters, and the humour is top notch. This movie even had some jokes for the adults which the kids would not be able to make out. In that, this flick is entertaining for the whole family. There was one scene with a sloth (as evident from the trailer) where I almost died laughing. Then there was this 'Mr. Big' scene that parodies, well, you'll know when you see it. Enough emotion, enough suspense, right amount of action, perfect dialogue, excellent comedy and the right length makes this an absolute must watch for children and adults alike. WATCH IT NAW!
P.S. Thumbs up if you got the Breaking Bad reference.
