Series Review - Daredevil (Season 2)

The first season of Daredevil was very, very good. I was absolutely anticipating the next one. The second season is actually even better! Here's why...

Firstly, Charlie Cox as always awesome. The guy is so likeable yet kicks ass. Perfect Daredevil and an even better Matt Murdock, which if you saw the first season, you already know. I want to see him play DD in MCU as well. His buddy Foggy, played by Elden Henson was superb too. No surprises there. The bromance between them is so strong that I wonder if they are that close off-screen. That is a testament to their performance. However, I slightly feel that their story arc is somewhat similar to S1. Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page is also wonderful as always. In fact, here we get to see a bit more of her character which is nice. The chemistry between all three characters is excellent and it is that aspect that kept me more interested in this series from S1 than Daredevil himself.

Now, onto the Elephant in the room - The Punisher. I will go out on a limb and say this -  if RDJ was born to play Tony Stark, Hugh Jackman was born to play Wolvie, Jon Bernthal, in my humble opinion, was born to play The Punisher. Frank Castle is to S2 what Kingpin was to S1. If you were rooting for DD throughout the series, I assure you that by the end, you will side with The Punisher. An extremely well developed character, thanks to Jon Bernthal's portrayal. His performance is so good that you can look at the pain of losing his family in his eyes in every scene. If Jon and Charlie don't play their respective characters in MCU, I riot! As a matter of fact, The Punisher spinoff is a given cha-ching generator for MCU at this point. The only minor issue I had with The Punisher is that he was a bit psychotic. He looked for blood and destruction. The way I remembered, it was to protect the innocent and provide them instant justice than to quench his bloodlust. However, that may be a nitpick. Apart from that, he was perfect as Frank Castle. Shane and The Punisher - comic book characters done justice by Jon Bernthal! When it comes to Elektra, she was okay but she was also a psycho as well. However, her psychotic behavior is explained so that is that. She was okay but I could have done without her.

The action sequences were very good overall. Notable was the stairway fight sequence that was made to look like one shot. It came very close to looking like it. Kudos to the crew for that. All fight sequences were very well choreographed and almost movie quality. Definitely better than the first season.

In the end, season 2 more than lived upto my expectations. The show slows down in the middle, but never gets boring. The finale could have been a tad bit grander and The Punisher could have been given a better closure. But that is just me. I am a fan of both Marvel and DC but I must admit, Marvel wins by a LONG shot with this one! Your turn DC.
